Venting

Know what I can't stand? When people way underbid things. You want me to spend $3.50 on a skein of yarn and spend hours making you something, but you only want to pay $10? Are you kidding me? Is my time worth nothing? I understand that some people don't realize how much time goes into knitting or crocheting. But the people who bid on these items do! You're hurting all of us when you bid on items for such low sums. Now, I'm not saying to overbid either, but there is a happy medium. But when you bid for such low amounts, you're hurting us all. I can't afford to spend hours making something to make less than $7 in profit on it after all the fees that I get charged via Etsy and PayPal. I'm sorry. Do us all a favor, when they're that ridiculously low, ignore them. Maybe people will get the clue. If you want something that cheap, go to Walmart. If you want quality, handmade items, you need to be willing to pay a little more. No one wins when you sell your handmade items at store prices. The stores sell so many that they can get supplies cheaper and offer them lower. We can't. So please, think about what you're really doing before you bid on those insanely low ads.

  1. Agreed! It makes me woozy at some of those requests! I've stopped bidding long time ago as it never really seems worth all the effort.

  2. Someone will always want something for nothing!

You are right we all have to do our bit so we all get paid a living wage :)

  4. I had to stop doing the Alchemy because it made me so frustrated. I just have to focus on what I am doing and realize that my product is better and eventually those types of people will run out of money to buy materails.

  5. It is funny isn't it ? A plumber gets way over $50 and hour, as do electricans, but an artist or crafter is supposed to work their fingers off for nothing. Yeah I get annoyed by it too.

  6. It can be so frustrating to run into someone who doesn't appreciate the true value of handmade and wants it for Walmart prices. I try to explain to them all the time, effort, and love that goes into something handmade, but some people just don't get it.
